India Terms Statute Amendments 'Positive Developments'
India
has termed the amendments made in the constitution as "positive
developments".
“We
regard the two amendments passed yesterday by the Nepali Parliament as positive
developments,” Spokesperson at the Indian Ministry for External Affairs, Vikas
Swarup said in the twitter handle @MEAIndia.
He
further expressed hope that other outstanding issues are also addressed in a
similar "constructive spirit". He said, "We hope that other
outstanding issues are similarly addressed in a constructive spirit."
The
Legislature-Parliament on Saturday night endorsed the constitution amendment
bill along with its amendments with majority votes. The bill and the amendments
were forwarded in the House with the aim of addressing the demands of the
agitating United Democratic Madhesi Front (UDMF).
India
has not explicitly welcomed Nepal's new constitution. Its statements following
the statute's promulgation merely noted the promulgation.
