Journalist Raju Shrestha awarded with 'Gopal Giri memorial award'
Birgunj, 04 March – Journalist Raju Shrestha was awarded with the ‘Gopal Giri Memorial Award’ amid an event held at the Federation of Nepalese Journalists auditorium in Birgunj on Friday. Journalist Shrestha who is associated with Avenues Television was honored with a cash prize of Rs 25,000 and a certificate of appreciation by Chief District Officer of Parsa, Keshav Raj Ghimire.
A nomination committee formed under the coordination of vice president of FNJ, Parsa Dhurba Sah had recommended journalist Shrestha for the award. The committee which was also joined by former chairman of FNJ, Parsa KC Lamicchane and Satrughan Nepal selected Shrestha for the award.
The participants and speakers in the event applauded the contribution of Journalist Shrestha in the field of Journalism and Former Chairman of the federation Gopal Giri.
The event held under the leadership of current chairman of the federation Shyam Banjara was addressed by Gopal Giri’s son Girish Giri, honored personnel Raju Shrestha, Federation of Nepalese Journalist mid regional coordinator and central member Shital Mahato, senior journalist Jagdish Sharma, Chamber and Commerce Society central member Bijay Sarawagi, Sadbhawana Party central member Nizzamudin Shamani, Chairman of Birgunj Chamber of Commerce and Industries Pradip Kedia, CPN (UML) leader Dr. Bishwambar Sharma, Federal Socialist Form Nepal, Parsa chapter Chairman Pradip Yadav, Nepal BAR association Parsa chapter chairman Pramod Sah.
The event was welcomed by federation vice-chairman Dhurpa Sah, while former Chairman of the
Late Giri was shot to death by former UCPN – (Maoist) on January, 15 2004. The award is presented to an active journalist of the district every year in his memory by the Federation of Nepalese Journalists, Parsa chapter.
